A Fine Art graduate of UiTM Shah Alam, Amar Shahid (b. 1986) is a multi-disciplinary artist with a specialty in linguistics, specifically the intricacies of sociolinguistic history in Southeast Asia. He works with both conventional and experimental media such as oil, epoxy, printmaking, and engages with traditional craft techniques like Japanese kintsugi. Amar’s interest is in cultural conflicts and their ecosystems. He reflects on them using anecdotes from his Malay Muslim background, multicultural upbringing, and Chinese vernacular education in Malaysia. His unique perspectives shape his artworks and writings, revealing a distinct Southeast Asian narrative.
